Hey Al... If you read these things, I thought you might find the humor in saying I'm from St. Vital. :) You should get on Facebook; I've got Joe on as a friend, and need a couple more for a complete Bittersweet/Phase 5 reunion. Will try to line up a visit to Calgary when the band is playing. Keep on rocking my North End brother! - Bill

Hi Sharon,
Really enjoyed hearing you and Al. It was nice chatting with you. You meet the best people when you're out for a smoke. Anyway, can't wait to see you guys again. I think I'll be in Calgary in November, so will look you up and come out with some of my friends. Give me a call if you're ever playing in Edmonton. 776-3290.

I have lots of memories of Al learning to do his thing. From the time he picked up the guitar, I knew that his life was going to revolve around music. I have had the pleasure of knowing Al from the time I was 5 or 6 years old. I watched him develop his talent all the years he was in Winnipeg. Although I have not heard him and his band play in a long time, I can see from the comments in this guestbook that he is everything I would every have expected.
Al, its so great to see you living out the dream you have had since you were about 10 years old (especially since we found that hockey was not going to be your thing). Happy 50th Birthday!!! Say hi to the family from Jeanne and I.

Dear Al and band Just a quick word to say how much we have enjoyed seeing you guys play (Elbow River). We've seen you play twice now and looking forward to becoming regular followers. We really admire the quality guitar work from Al and the band's performance is always very tight and a real good range of songs covered. Keep up the good work and we'll see you again soon. Best Wishes Steve and Jay

I went for dinner and wasn't planning on staying too late until I heard your band. I was the stupid one on the dance floor in the white shirt. I don't think I've actually ever heard a band as good as yours. I got a card from your very attractive and great singer. I had the time of my life last night and I'll be coming down to see you all again now that I know where you are. Good job mate! Fantastic!

It was the early eighties, I was in a basement band and we were always trying to improve ourselves musically. My friends also had a band and were taking combo lessons from this guy they said was a great instructor and player. We went to meet with him. That was my first time meeting Al. We liked what we saw and heard and decided to start combo lessons ourselves. I have had many guitar teachers throughout my life, but none more impressive and knowledgeable than Al Barrett. Two and a half decades later, I still play the way I was taught by Al. I live in Bridlewood with my wife and our two beautiful children, and I noticed that the Al Barrett Band was playing at the Olive Grove. Grandma came into town to babysit, and Crystal and I ventured over to the "Grove" to see the band. I was hoping that Al would remember me so I could thank him for all the things he had taught me, not only about guitar, but the structure of music, the playing of music with others, and learning how to reproduce the music I heard. We arrived at the "Grove' during the last half of the first set, and I couldn't see the band for all the people on the dance floor. The sound was so good. I knew right away that it was Al and band-mates. He always was a stickler for "in tune" and sonically accurate. Crisp clean guitar sound and guitar playing !! My wife and I had a great time, loved the band , and best of all , Al and I caught up with all that had transpired since we had last talked, many moons ago. I still play and record music in my home studio, and my kids are allowed to play any of my instruments. They will benefit from all that I have learned over the years, and they will also learn about the man who was such a great influence on their father. It is an honor to know you Mr. Barrett, and it was awesome to hear your band. Never stop. Your friends......................., David & Crystal Ball

I can hardly believe my ears. You guys are #^%$&^* fantastic. I was there both nights sitting over by the VLT's. I'm a regular at the Grove but I've never been so entertained. Thanks for the great music and good times. I talked to Jammal at the end of the night and said that he HAS to have you back SOON! I met the girl singer Sharon. What a great gal she is, so friendly and a great singer. She gave me a business card. I'm going to come by and see you at the Casino. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Your new fan.
Sylvia
